Gen Purp UkraineAid Inc. is a publicly supported tax-deductible corporation that uses the services of the Bavarian Red Cross of Germany to facilitate delivery and distribution of medicines and medical supplies to Ukraine. It monitors such donations on a regular basis so that no irregularities occur, such as the resale of equipment on the black Market. At present, the board of UkraineAid Inc. comprises Mr. Harabatch, president Natalka Gawdiak, vice-president, and voting members Zoya Hayuk and Orest Deychakiwsky. All the members of the board are unpaid volunteers, and all donations to UkraineAid go toward the purchase of medical aid to Ukraine, with the only exceptions being administrative costs such as incorporation fees, printing and postage. As a publicly supported, non-profit organization, under Maryland law UkraineAid Inc. is required to disclose its financial records to anyone upon request. It is not associated in any way with UkraineAid of Philadelphia.

Gen Purp The purpose of UABA in the past has focused on human
rights issues in the Ukraine, and more recently it ha worked to support the development of the rule of law in Ukraine, especially in the areas of economics and business. With its many contacts in Ukraine, UABA is a good resource for American attorneys interested in volunteering their services in Ukraine.
NIS Role UABA is composed of 400 American lawyers of Ukrainian heritage who provide technical assistance to the Verchovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine, on matters of legal reform. Many UABA members have participated in a wide range of conferences and projects on legal issues in Ukraine. UABA is a founding member of the World Congress of Ukrainian Jurists and established a scholarship program with Southern Methodist University Law School to host Ukrainian graduate students. Many of its members are fluent in Ukrainian and two members have served as in-resident advisors to the Verchovna Rada.

NIS Role The association provides moral and, whenever possible, material aid for citizens of Ukraine in their struggle to achieve human and national rights for themselves and a democratic form of government for their country. The organization provides ongoing material and technical support to Ukraine through donations of food, clothing, medical supplies, and pharmaceuticals.

Project 1 Children of Chernobyl Hospital Fund
The association has agreed to refurbish a hospital in Kiev, Ukraine, which is designated for the treatment of patients suffering from radiation illness and the victims of Chernobyl, especially the children. The association provides medical equipment, medicine and volunteers for the hospital staff. The agreement with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health was signed November 1, 1991.
Project 2 Help Ukraine Fund
The purpose of this project is to collect funds and solicit food and clothing for distribution to hospitals, schools, unemployed elderly, and other needy segments of the population. The association has organized a network of local NGOs throughout Ukraine which will facilitate the distribution of relief shipments. The network has successfully distributed large amounts of soaps, detergents, clothing, vitamins, and other household items.

Project 1 Teaching English in Ukraine
UNA sends volunteer teachers to teach English in Ukraine. UNA screens and prepares participants who wish to teach, provides textbooks and teaching materials and sponsors a predeparture workshop. The English courses are taught for four to six weeks during the summer for 20 hours per week. Courses are offered at advanced, intermediate and beginner levels. Volunteer teachers must pay their own travel expenses to Ukraine, but travel within Ukraine, food and lodging are provided by the co-sponsor, PROSVITA, in Ukraine. UNA has taught English to over 2,600 students throughout the Ukraine.

Project 1 Academic Contact/Logistics Service
The project arranges the logistics for Americans who wish to make a professional visit to Ukraine. The Association prepares an itinerary, arranges the professional contacts, and provides interpreters, cars, drivers, tickets, and lodging. The charges vary according to the itinerary requested.
Project 2 Teachers for Ukraine
The project places volunteer English and Economic teachers in institutions in Ukraine. Volunteers are responsible for their travel expenses and a $330 program fee. The institution provides room & board (dormitory or homestay) and a local stipend. Volunteers have an option off a summer, a semester, or an academic year placement.
Project 3 Ukrainian/NIS Area studies Program
The Cherkassy Polytechnic Institute in Central Ukraine offers an academic year program in language, history, current issues within the Ukrainian or Russian Area Studies Program. The cost is $1650 which includes everything except for airfare. All programs are subject to a minimum of 10 students. A semester program is also available. Interested students must enroll six weeks before the beginning of the academic program.

Gen Purp USTTI is a joint venture between leaders of the US communications industry and ranking officials from the Federal Government. The goal of this collaborative effort is to share US communications and technological advances on a global basis by providing a comprehensive array of free telecommunications and broadcast training courses for qualified personnel from developing nations. USTTI training is provided in cities throughout the US by corporations, governmental agencies, universities, and international organizations.
NIS Role USTTI provides telecommunications and broadcast training for qualified personnel from CEE and the NIS. USTTI recruits professionals, processes applications, coordinates and evaluates training programs, provides cross-cultural training to participants, and raises funds to meet the travel and subsistence needs of participants.

Gen Purp UUARC has been in operation for 50 years providing humanitarian assistance to needy individuals and organizations in the US and foreign countries. UUARC distributes contributed clothing, food, medical equipment, and medicines to orphanages, hospitals and homes for the elderly; provides cash grants to individuals for medical assistance, food and shelter; offers resettlement assistance to refugees; and provides funding for teachers, equipment and books for school.
NIS Role In addition to providing immigration and resettlement assistance for individuals from CEE/NIS, UUARC has provided humanitarian aid to individuals and organizations in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Armenia. This assistance has included financial and medical aid to Chernobyl victims, donations of clothing, sending English-language teachers to Ukraine, and providing funding for grade schools, orphanages and senior citizen centers. UUARC is now expanding its humanitarian programs throughout NIS countries, emphasizing Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Project 1 Adoption Program
This program assists needy and handicapped orphans in Ukraine and other countries of NIS to be adopted by qualified American parents.
Project 2 Aid to Orphanages
This project provides humanitarian assistance including clothing, food, medical equipment, beds, books, and toys to needy orphanages in Ukraine and possibly other countries of NIS. In addition, doctors may be sent to provide medical treatment and children may be brought to the US for medical treatment and vacations.
Project 3 Aiding Ukrainian Senior Citizen Centers This project provides medical equipment, medical treatment pharmaceuticals, food, and clothing to needy senior citizens' homes in Ukraine.
Project 4 Humanitarian Aid
Much of UUARC's support has been directed to the Children of Chernobyl hospital fund. UUARC has expanded its program of collecting donated clothing for shipment to needy persons throughout the world, including Ukraine and Poland. In 1992, six tons of donated clothing were shipped to all regions of Ukraine. UUARC has established 11 soup kitchens that are operating throughout Ukraine. UUARC provides books, supplies and meals to schools in impoverished villages. UUARC also is providing cash for emergency relief assistance to several thousand Ukrainians in Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Project 5 Support to Schools
This project provides educational materials, textbooks, equipment, and financial support for selected grade schools and high schools in Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan. There may also be opportunities to send teachers and to arrange for internships.

Gen Purp United Way International provides technical assistance and training to United Way and affiliated organizations in over 25 countries, encourages the development of community-based organizations internationally, and helps solve health and human welfare problems.
NIS Role United Way International encourages the development of the voluntary sector as an essential element of a pluralistic, democratic society and to help emerging democracies cope with the stresses associated with the transformation to market-based economies. United Way of Hungary has been established in Budapest and there is a liaison office in Moscow.

Gen Purp OIPSS at UD develops opportunities for students to study abroad, increases the presence of foreign students in special and degree programs on campus, and establishes opportunities for faculty and staff to provide expertise and technical assistance throughout the world.
NIS Role OIPSS teaches relevant management, economics, and English language courses in Bulgaria under a two-year USAID grand and a KPMG-PeatMarwick subcontract. Consultations with Bulgarian businesses, government, academic officials, and entrepreneurs are also conducted. Other programs include the Summer International Business Institute for MBA candidates from the International Management Institute in Kiev, a Winter Session for UD students in St. Petersburg, and numerous linkages and exchanges with higher education institution in CEE/NIS.

Project 1 Summer International Business Institute Through a partnership
between UD and the International Management Institute in Kiev, Ukraine,
MBA candidates from IMI spend six to eight weeks at UD training in business
practices, studying the English language, and doing an in-depth
study of the moral, political, and cultural foundations on which the American
free-enterprise system is based. Some funding is provided by USIA.
