Energy technologies projects:
Project: Gazprom-one
Budget: US$182 million
Begin: Fourth quarter 1996/first quarter 1997 (est.)
Description: Procurement and installation of equipment to improve the
efficiency, reliability and environmental performance of Gazprom's export
pipeline system. The project features five components: (1) utilization
of mobile compressor stations; (2) installation of export metering stations;
(3) replacement of ball valves; (4) initiation of a comprehensive pipeline
inspection program; and (5) funding of pipeline-related feasibility studies.
Contact: Gazprom (Mr. Anatoli Boiko, Director, Department of Gas Transportation,
Gas Condensate and Underground Gas Storage, tel: 095-719-8130)
This project was conceived as a result of an extensive independent study
of the Russian unified gas supply system which was organized by the EBRD
in close cooperation with Gazprom. The study, launched in 1993, has specified
concrete investment projects worth US$3 billion related to more efficient
utilization of gas reserves, improved conditions and operations of pipelines
and compressor stations, removal of transportation bottlenecks in the supply
system, and the prevention of corrosion defects. These investments would
be carried out during the period 1996-2000 at a cost of US$500-700 million
annually, up to 35% of which could be provided by the EBRD. This project
is currently in the early stages of preparation by the EBRD.
Project: Gas injection demonstration
Budget: US$47 million
Begin: Fourth quarter 1996/first quarter 1997 (est.)
Description: Procurement and installation of equipment for reinjection
of associated gas produced by an existing oilfield with the goal of demonstrating
the effectiveness of this technology in increasing secondary oil recovery
and reducing air pollution caused by gas flaring. Consultancy services
for reservoir simulation and tracer services will be required, as will
technical assistance and training to strengthen project implementation.
Contact: To be determined. The World Bank is considering providing a US$47
million loan to Purneftegaz, a Russian oil producer, for this project.
